Army jawan drowns in river Chenab

Jammu, Nov 12 (UNI) An army jawan was swayed by the fast currents of river Chenab while he was taking bath at Hamirpur in bordering Akhnoor sector here, a Defence Ministry spokesman today said.

The jawan, identified as Satnam Singh of 14 Sikh Light Infantry, was reportedly taking bath on the bank of the river yesterday when he went a few steps ahead and was overpowered by water currents, the spokesman said.

Searches for his body were going on, he added.
