Mamata demands Buddhadeb's resignation

Kolkata, Nov 11 (UNI) Hailing the court finding on Tapasi Malik murder case, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today demanded resignation of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee owning moral responsibility for the incident.

'' Mr Bhattacharjee is also the Home Minister. He has lost credibility as an administrator and does not have the right to continue in the chair. We demand his resignation, '' she told a press conference shortly after a fast track court found Suhrid Dutta, former Secretary of CPI(M) Singur zonal committee and party worker Debu Malik guilty for murdering Tapasi.

She also demanded that the state Government return 400 acre of the Singur land, which was acquired for Tata Motors' small car project, as a mark of respect to Tapasi.

Tapasi, the daughter of a local farmer, was member of 'Singur Krishi Jomi Raksha Committee' that fought against land acquisition for the Tatas' small car project.

Alleging that the administration had tried to suppress all evidences of the murder to shield those guilty, Ms Banerjee said by murdering Tapasi an attempt was made to stall the anti-land acquisition movement.

She announced that her party would observe Tapasi Malik day at Singur on November 15.

On December 18, 2006, the charred body of Tapasi was found in a ditch at the Tata Motors' project site.

The CBI started investigation in the case and arrested Debu Malik and Suhrid Dutta respectively on June 24 and June 28, 2007.
