Student unions urge government to improve education system

Imphal, Nov 10 (UNI) All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) and the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) have urged the state Education minister, L Jayentakumar to improve the overall education system in the state.

T Premanand, general-secetary, AMSU and Y Ratankumar, general- secretary of DESAM in a memorandum to the minister said the Manipur Education Commission of 1991 made a number of recommendations for the overall improvement of education system in the state. But the recommendations were not implemented.

They also mooted the idea of constituting a new School Education Commission for Manipur.

They proposed to regularise all categories of vacant promotion posts for an orderly education system.

The Directorate of Education (Schools) has a massive work to handle as it has to deal with large number of schools, teachers and students. The unions also demanded that the existing norms for transfer and posting need to be rationalised.

A programme advisory committee was also proposed to advise state government for the successful implementation of the centrally sponsored schemes in the field of quality education.
