Railways revenue up by 15.76 per cent during Apr-Oct

New Delhi, Nov 10 (UNI) Indian Railways registered an increase of 15.76 per cent in its revenue earnings during April 1, 2008 and October 31, 2008 as compared to the corresponding period last year.

A Railway spokesman said today the total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis between April and October end were Rs 44,547.52 crore compared to Rs 38,481.83 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 15.76 per cent.

The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs 25,688.18 crore during April-Oct last year to Rs 30,151.97 crore, same period this year, recording an increase of 17.38 per cent.

Similarly, the total passenger revenue earnings during first seven months of the financial year 2008-09 were Rs 12575.05 crore compared to Rs 11,160.90 crore during the same period last year.

The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 11,27.55 crore during April-October 2008 compared to Rs 1059.87 crore during the same period last year, he said.

The spokesman said the total sundry earnings went up from Rs 5,72.88 crore during April-October 2007 to Rs 6,92.95 crore during April-October 2008.

The total approximate number of passengers booked during April- October 2008 was 4119.63 million compared to 3867.08 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 6.53 per cent.

In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during April-October 2008 was 2193.73 million and 1925.90 million compared to 2117.02 million and 1750.06 million during the same period last year, registering an increase of 3.62 per cent and 10.05 per cent respectively.
