Mumbai children participate in polio campaign
Mumbai, Nov 10 (UNI) Hundreds of children attended the ''Do Boondh Zindagi Ki'' Pulse Polio vaccination campaign, organised by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in the city and its suburbs.
The campaign, which was initiated in 1995, saw 7,000 booths across the metropolis offering free vaccinations to minimise the disease among children between the age group of zero and five years, yesterday.
''For polio eradication, sanitation and hygiene needs to be ensured as virus transmission is facilitated especially in countries, where sanitation systems are sub-standard,'' BMC Executive Health Officer Jairaj Thanekar said on the occasion.
''Our efforts will pay-off if every child below the age of five in the city takes a polio drop,'' Rajeev Menon, Managing Director, Kimberly Clark, which co-managed the campaign said.
