Foreign Exchange earnings through tourism up by Rs 964 crore
New Delhi, Nov 10 (UNI) India increased its foreign exchange earnings by 964 million dollars during January-October 2008 with the increase in foreign tourists traffic 3.7 lakh as compared to the corresponding period last year.
The Ministry sources said today that Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEE) in Indian rupee during the period January-October 2008 was Rs.40712 crore as compared to Rs. 34748 crore during the corresponding period of 2007.
In terms of foreign exchange, a total of 9696 million dollars was earned during the period as compared to 8293 million dollars during the corresponding period last year.
Foreign tourists arrival during the period was 4.32 million as compared to FTAs of 3.95 million during the corresponding period of 2007.
There was marginal rise in the number of in foreign tourists in October 2008 with 4.53 lakh as compared to the previous month's figure of 3.31 lakh, sources said.
