Pungrain leads in paddy procurement

Chandigarh, Nov 8 (UNI) Pungrain is leading the paddy procurement operations by procuring over Nine lakh tonnes of paddy more, so far this year as compared to last year.

It has procured 34,85,629 tonnes of paddy (29.9 per cent) by last evening against 25,90,103 tonnes procured last year on this date.

Among the other state agencies Markfed has procured 26,75,170 tonnes of paddy, Punsup procured 26,30,023 tonnes of paddy, Punjab State Warehousing Corporation procured 14,52,293 tonnes of paddy and Punjab Agro procured 12,23,365 tonnes of paddy.

The Central Government Agency FCI has procured only 20,19,53 tonnes of paddy, which is just 1.7 per cent of the total procurement, against the target of 10 per cent given to it. The millers have procured 97,4,434 tonnes of paddy.

Ludhiana district is leading in procurement with 15,67,331 tonnes of paddy followed by Sangrur with 14,25,566 tonnes and Ferozepur 12,00,321 tonnes.
