HP fruit growers to get information through video conferencing
New Delhi, Nov 8 (UNI) In an effort to help farming community of tribal snow bound, distant and remote places, the Himachal Pradesh Government has decided to connect all its 76 development blocks through video conferencing facility to provide them information on various crop issues.
Disclosing this, Mr B K Agarwal Secretary, Information Technology, HP, here today said under the plan, the scientists and farm experts in Shimla and various universities would interact with field fruit growers directly on appointed days through video conferencing facility and advice them on various farm issues like crop diseases, seeds, use of insecticides and weather conditions.
Besides agriculture and fruit crops, farmers would also be advised on animal husbandry and fisheries related issues, he said.
Video conferencing between farmers and experts would be scheduled on fixed days at each block and the connectivity to all the centres would be provided through HIMSWAN and BSNL broadband system.
As per the plan, the video conferencing facility would be extended to agriculture and horticulture university so as the scientists could provide expert advice to the field farmers located at snow bound, backward and distant places. In all, 3243 village panchayats and 76 development blocks would be made hi-tech by 2009, he said.
