Assistance handed over to cartoonist's mother

Chennai, Nov 8 (UNI) Vellore District Collector Dharmendra Pratap Yadav today handed over a cheque for Rs 25,000 to Ms P Saratha, mother of Cartoonist T Udayan (a) Udyakumar.

An official release said following an appeal from Ms Saratha for financial assistance, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi sanctioned the sum from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.

Following this, the District Collector handed over the cheque to Ms Saratha today. Mr Udyakumar had worked for Tamil dailies as a cartoonist and died of an heart attack in 2002.
