Mysuru, Nov 7: Sri Vishvesha Theertha Sreepadangalu of Pejawar Mutt will start a free hostel for Dalits, tribals and other backward classes students in city. The Swamiji performed guddali puja for the project near Gobbalimara in J P Nagar here on Thursday, Nov 6.
He also performed guddali puja for the construction of Sri Vittala, Pranadevaru, Sri Raghavendra Temple in the same site. The Vittala, Mukhya Prana, Raghavendra Seva Samithi, headed by the Seer is already running Sri Pejawar Dhama, home for the aged, at the same site.
Speaking on the occasion, the Swamiji said that Pejawar Mutt will launch more social service projects in Mysore and the hostel proposed for dalits and tribals was one such project. The students will be provided free boarding, lodging and education.
Likening religious Mutts to light houses, the Swamiji said that the Mutts guide the people as the light-houses guide ships in the seas.
Mysore District Co-operative Union President H V Rajiv, who was the chief guest, said that Saints like Pejawar Seer were the saviours of religion. "Hindu society is safe in their hands," he added.
MLA H S Shankaralingegowda, another chief guest, lauded the leadership qualities and administrative skills of Rajiv and urged the govt. to nominate him to a powerful position.
He said he had spoken to the Swamiji in this regard requesting him to use his good offices to get a position to Rajiv.
Corporator B L Bhyrappa, Akhila Karnataka Brahmana Mahasabha Sabha Pathi K Raghuram, industrialist A S Murthy Rao and other dignitaries were present.
