Agartala, Nov 7 (UNI) Minister for Development of Northeastern Region (DoNER) Mani Shankar Aiyar today expressed dissatisfaction over five Northeastern states, including Tripura, for delaying approval of the Task Force report.

The Force was constituted with Chief Secretaries of the eight sister states along with Secretary, DoNER, and Secretary, NEC, to look into the issues relating to better, sustained and more effective mechanism for spending of the fund for the region's development.

Addressing a gathering here on the occasion of foundation laying programme of manufacturing unit of parental drugs and injections, run by Kolkata-based Vedanta Medicare Pvt Ltd (VMPL), Mr Aiyar said only three states of Northeast had so far approved the Task Force report, while others' approval was pending till now.

'' I hope the concerned state governments will take immediate action on the report so that we can proceed further pinpointing the issues of development in the Northeastern states, '' Mr Aiyar underlined.

He said according to the decision of 56th plenary session of NEC in Agartala in May last, a high-level Task Force with the Chief Secretaries of NE states was constituted to prepare a comprehensive report on three core issues related to the development of the region.

The Task Force had already submitted the report about two months ago but the matter could not be finalised because of non-availability of the remarks of all the member states of the Northeast.

Mr Aiyar made it clear that there should be a ten per cent increase in the allocation from the Non-Lapsable Central Pool Resource (NLCPR) in addition to the ten per cent budgetary support to the NEC.

The Task Force had taken a note on whether fund made available to the Ministry of DoNER and NLCPR be made available to the DoNER in entirety as an entitlement of NE states or should it continue as grant from consolidated fund from the Centre.

The Task Force had also a fresh look at the recently notified North East Industrial Investment Promotion Policy, and NEC members were of the view that this should be revoked immediately.
