First conviction under People's Security Act
Raipur, Nov 7 (UNI) In the first conviction under Chhattisgarh's People's Security Act promulgated about two years back to combat naxalism, a local court today sentenced a man to two years' imprisonment.
Judicial Magistrate Pankaj Jain awarded the punishment to Raja alias Kamruddin who was also sentenced to two years' in prison for violating the Arms Act besides being fined Rs 100. The sentences would run concurrently.
According to prosecution, Raja was arrested by city police at Bhathagaon on February 8 while in possession of a countrymade gun and Maoist letter. He worked as a courier for the rebels.
