TN CM inspects relief materials for SL Tamils
Chennai, Nov 6 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today inspected 2,000 tonnes of relief materials to be despatched for the suffering Eelam Tamils in Sri Lanka on behalf of the state government.
The first phase of the relief materials comprising rice, dhal, tea, sugar, toilet soaps, detergents, tooth paste, dhotis, lungis, sarees and other readymade garments for men and women have been separately packed for 80,000 families, an official release here said.
These relief materials would be shipped on November eight or nine from Chennai Port to the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka which in turn would distribute to the displaced Tamils through the International Red Cross and the United Nations.
Red Cross Society representative Thomas Reece and External Affairs representative I M Pandey were among others who inspected the relief materials.
Mr Reece said the relief materials were in good condition.
