Reporter granted bail in blackmailing case
Phagwara, Nov 6 (UNI) A local court today granted bail to television reporter Ashwini Malhotra, who was booked by police on charges of blackmailing an Assistant Director of LPU.
The Judicial Magistrate, Phagwara, Harish Anand, today granted the journalist bail on a bond of Rs 40,000 after his advocate informed the court that police has withdrawn 420IPC, imposed upon Malhotra while section 452 IPC has been replaced with 451 IPC and 75 section of I.T. Act has also been replaced with 65/66/67 of IT act.
It was after strong protests held by journalists state-wide, that I G Zonal, Sanjeev Kalra was appointed to resolve the tangle after a compromise was reached between the representatives of media and police in the presence of Media Advisor to CM Harcharan Bains who specially intervened in the matter.
