Police lathicharge to disperse demonstrators in Kashmir
Srinagar, Nov 6 (UNI) Police and CRPF today resorted to lathi charge to disperse processionists in the downtown city, who were trying to march to Jamia Masjid.
Official sources said people at Rainawari took to the streets, raising ''pro-freedom slogans'' despite undeclared curfew in the area.
When they were challenged and asked to disperse by the security forces, deployed in large numbers, they pelted stone at the latter.
The forces resorted to lathicharge to disperse the crowd, who were re-grouping and pelting stones on them from lanes and by-lanes.
The demonstrators were demanding that they be allowed to march towards the historic Jamia Masjid.
The Jamia Masjid march call was given by the Coordination Committee (CC), spearheading the present agitation in Kashmir.
