Orissa plans STF to check organised crime:DGP

Bhubaneswar,Nov 6 (UNI) Orissa is contemplating to raise a Special Task Force(STF) to check growing organised crime in the state, Director General of police M M Praharaj said here today.

Talking to newsmen here, Mr Praharaj said a dedicated force was required in the state to specially deal with the organised crime, cyber crime and the terrorist activities.

He said the police department would also propose to the state government to introduce an effective law to deal with these crimes on the line of the Maharastra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOOCA).

The DGP who assumed the new office on September 30 last, said his top priority would be to ensure that there would be no human rights violation and custodial deaths in the state.

On the strengthening of the force in the state to face the growing naxal menace, Mr Praharaj said out of the five India Reserve Battalion(IRB) sanctioned for the state, already one has already been in operation and another completed to be ready for operation.The recruitment in two more battalions had been completed while notification has been issued for recruitment for the 5th IRB.
