Obama's statement on Kashmir 'dangerous' : Gupta

Jammu, Nov 6 (UNI) Former Minister of State for Defence and senior BJP leader Chaman Lal Gupta today described as dangerous the US President designate Barack Obama's statement regarding sending a special envoy to resolve Kashmir issue between India and Pakistan.

''Obama's statement about sending a special envoy to Kashmir is a dangerous thing,'' Prof Gupta said at a jointly addressed press conference with BJP state president Ashok Khajuria and former BJP state chief Dr Nirmal Singh.

Terming Jammu and Kashmir as integral part of India, the BJP leader said sending of special envoy to Kashmir would be a direct intervention in the internal affairs of the country.

However, the separatists in Jammu and Kashmir have hailed Mr Obama's statement, hoping that it would lead to an early resolution of the issue.

Besides ''weak foreign policy'', Prof Gupta blamed Congress of having soft stand on terrorism.

Meanwhile, the BJP leader also criticised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of accepting a copy of the document on the self-rule proposal for the J&K, which was handed over to him by People's Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed last evening.
