Nathu La border trade ends on Nov 30 for this year
Gangtok, Nov 5 (UNI) With only 25 trading days left, Chinese traders continue to falter compared to their Sikkimese counterparts in conducting business over Nathu La border trade between Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAR) and Sikkim, official records of the past six months reveal.
Even the volume of the total business conducted over the fabled silk route from May 19 to October 30 is low key with the figures standing at around Rs 59 lakhs. It was slightly improved performance from last year's transactions that stood at Rs 34.6 lakhs.
That the Chinese traders could sell items (as mentioned in the schedule list) worth Rs 1.35 lakh to the traders from Sikkim this year up to October is a testimony of the lopsided business being conducted at Nathu La border trade.
On the other hand, Sikkimese traders managed to export items worth Rs 58 lakhs to the traders from TAR in the past six months, edible items being most exported.
