Delhi Mayor meets NCW chairperson over Jaikishen Sharma's remarks

New Delhi, Nov 5 (UNI) A delegation of women led by Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra today met chairperson of the National commission for women Girija Vyas to protest against the outrageous remarks made against her by leader of the Opposition in the MCD Jaikishen Sharma.

Taking exception to Mr Sharma calling the Mayor a "slur on women" and commenting on her wearing a jacket, the delegation comprising women municipal councillors said they felt extremely insecure due to the hostile attitude of the Leader of the Opposition.

Later, Ms Mehra informed mediapersons that Ms Girija Vyas has issued a showcause notice to Mr Sharma which has to be responded within 48 hours.

The delegation also visited the Delhi Commisison for Women and submitted their complaint. The DCW issued orders for summoning Mr Sharma on Friday at 1500 hrs.

The Mayor said if the leader of the Opposition did not offer an unconditional written apology within 48 hours, the women delegation would stage a hunger strike outside the residence of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
