CPI seeks thorough probe in multi-crore foodgrain scam
Lucknow, Nov 5 (UNI) Seeking a comprehensive probe into the Rs 35,000 crore foograin scam in Uttar Pradesh, the Communist Party of India (CPI) today asked the Mayawati government to lend full support to the CBI in its investigation.
''It the biggest scam of the country and should be probed accordingly,'' senior CPI leader Ashok Mishra, who was also agitating the matter since long, said in a letter to Ms Mayawati, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and CBI Director Ashwani Kumar.
Claiming that the embezzlement had exceeded Rs 70,000 crore in December 2006 and was not restricted to just one or two districts, he added the CBI should probe the scam thoroughly and asked the state government to provide all possible help to the investigating agency.
Mr Mishra further said altogether, six central schemes, including Antyodaya Yojna, Annapurna Yojna, Mid day Meal scheme, Below Poverty Line (BPL) Yojna and Sampurna Gramin Rozgar Yojna have fallen prey to the embezzlement.
