SUCI demands immediate reduction in bus fares

Kolkata, Nov 4 (UNI) The Socialist Unity Centre of India(SUCI) has taken a month-long agitational programme throughout the state for immediate reduction in the bus fares and electricity bill.

Besides, the party demanded return of land to the unwilling farmers and setting up of a new industry at the Tata's abandoned small-car unit at Singur.

'' Why the CPI(M)-led Left Front government is not reducing the bus fares after slashing of the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG in the international market. Why it is not returning land to the unwilling farmers, apart from setting up an alternative industry at Singur, '' SUCI State Secretary Provash Ghosh here today said.

Mr Ghosh also demanded that the electricity surcharages imposed by the CESC be cancelled and the three-lakh posts lying vacant in several schools and colleges in the state be filled.

He announced that the party would organise rallies and meetings, apart from staging demonstrations in front of the BDO offices on November 15.

While all the national highways would be blocked on November 24, the electricity bills would be boycotted in the first week of December, he said.

He stated that a law violation programme would also be held in mid-December throughout the state in support of their demands.
