Singur witnesses rallies over yesterday's violence
Singur, Nov 3 (UNI) More than a thousand farmers, under the banner of Singur Krishi Jami Raksha Committee, today encircled the police station here in protest against the alleged violence perpetrated on Trinamool Congress workers by activists of the CPM-backed Nano Bachao Committee.
The farmers assembled at Kamarkundu railway station and subsequently proceeded to Singur police station and held demonstrations there. The procession also submitted a memorandum to the police station.
Meanwhile, CPM zonal committee secretary Amar Chandra alleged that Trinamool cadres had vandalised houses of members of Nano Bachao Committee.
He also announced to hold a public meeting tomorrow at Joymolla in protest against the alleged police inaction during the violent outburst yesterday.
However, Singur Krishi Jami Raksha Committee convenor Becharam Manna refuted the CPM's allegations and announced to hold another protest rally tomorrow.
SP (Hooghly) Rajiv Mishra said two persons were arrested on charges of attacking Leader of Opposition Partha Chatterjee at Ghanshyampur.
''Altogether 16 complaints have been filed so far from both the parties in connection with yesterday's violence. Besides, five suo motu cases have been filed with regard to the attacks on police personnel,'' the SP said.
At least ten people were injured yesterday as Trinamool Congress and CPM cadres clashed in various parts of Hooghly district.
