ArcelorMittal wants land to set up office in W Bengal
Kolkata, Nov 3(UNI) World's largest steel producer ArcelorMittal has approached the government for setting up its office at Rajarhat, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today said.
"Laxminarayan Mittal wants to set up a central office for which it has sought land at Rajarhat," the Chief Minister said while inaugurating the 36th World Congress on Housing Science.
Other big companies, including Airtel and ICICI Bank, had also approached the government for land at Rajarhat, he said.
He said the state government was making moves to set up satellite townships at Dankuni, Domjur and Baruipur to address the problems of housing which was pronounced in the state.
Admitting that the government alone would not be able to solve the problem, the Chief Minister welcomed more private investment in low-cost housing and called upon those in real estate business to ensure housing for the poor and middle-income groups.
He said though the state has low cost technology to make low cost houses, every effort should be made to lower the costs further so that housing becomes affordable to the masses.
He also expressed concern at the rising land prices in the state and said at times it was preventing companies from setting up offices.
