Filing nominations for final phase of C'garh polls ends tomorrow

Raipur, Nov 2 (UNI) Tomorrow is the last day for filing of nominations for 51 assembly seats in eight districts for the second phase of assembly polls in Chhattisgarh slated to take place on November 20.

Nominations could be filed till 1500 hours tomorrow. Scrutiny would take place on November 4, while withdrawal of names could be done by November 6. Counting would be held on December 8.

The ruling BJP had released its list of candidates long before for the second phase and all the candidates had filed their nominations. On the other hand, the Congress released its list last night. Hence, Congress candidates would file nominations on the last day.

The Congress has left three seats for the Nationalist Congress Party, while it was yet to announce its candidate for Marwahi seat.

The CPI, the CPI-M, the LSP, the BSP, the SP, the Gondwana Ganatantra Party and the Chhattisgarh Vikas Party had fielded candidates for several seats for this phase.

Though exact situation about the contest on these assembly seats would be clear after last date of withdrawal of names, a multi-cornered contest on most seats was expected.

For the first time in the history of state, the Congress has entered into electoral alliance. Left parties had also formed alliance with smaller parties.
