Woman burnt to death for dowry
Barrackpore, Nov 01 (UNI) A 25-year old housewife was allegedly burnt to death at Gokulpur village near Kanchrapara in North 24 Parganas while the victim's husband and in-laws fled.
Police here today said the incident occurred on October 30 when Baishali Ghosh, with severe burns, was taken to Kalyani Hospital where she was declared dead.
An unnatural death case was registered with Kalyani police station in Nadia district, police added.
The victim's father Narayan Kundu lodged complaint with the police and alleged that his daughter was tortured by her husband, who demanded Rs 50,000 from the father.
On refusing to comply with her husband's demand Baishali was set afire resulting in her death, Mr Kundu told police.
The body was later sent to N R S Medical College Hospital at Kolkata for post-mortem today, Kalyani police said.
An investigation has been started but no one was arrested so far, police added.
