LDF recommends amendment in Forest Act
Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 1 (UNI) The Left Democratic Front (LDF) in a meeting held here today recommended the Kerala government to make necessary amendments in the Kerala Forests (Wasting and Management of Ecologically Fragile Lands) Act.
Talking to newspersons here, its convenor Vaikom Viswam said the amendment of the Act, intended to protect the forests and retain ecologically fragile areas, would not affect small and medium farmers in the state.
He said the meeting had authorised Forest Minister Binoy Viswam to study and prepare the amendments to be made in the Act.
However, the amendment would never affect the ecologically fragile areas, he said and added the area of the land would be decided without affecting the government's stand on protecting the ecologically fragile land.
