Washington, November 1 : Police officers have found a handgun that they believe was used for Jennifer Hudson's family murders, according to a report.

The .45-caliber weapon was recovered on October 29 in the midst of thick weeds in an alley that stands a block from where the singer's seven-year-old nephew was found shot dead multiple times in a Chevy Suburban.

The Illinois State Police is believed to have compared the ammunition in the recovered weapon with shell casings found at the crime scenes and concluded the bullets matched, sources told the Chicago Tribune.

The Oscar winner's mother and brother were found shot dead on October 24 in their Chicago residence while the body of the singer's nephew was discovered three days later in an abandoned car in Chicago, reports People magazine.

Though the Chicago police spokeswoman Monique Bond was unavailable for comments, the young Julian King is thought to be shot with the a .45.

William Balfour, the estranged husband of Hudson's sister, is being quizzed by the police over the slayings, but the authorities are yet to file any charges against him.
