Codavas demonstrate in Delhi for autonomy
New Delhi, Nov 1 : The people of Coorg in Karnataka today held a peaceful demonstration at Jantar Mantar demanding the creation of an autonomous region of Coorg.
They are demanding for inclusion of and the need to establishment of Codava Autonomous Region comprising of 45 ancient traditional Codava Naads along with the Darjeeling Gorkha Land Bill under the Sixth schedule of the Constitution which has been refered to a Parliamentary Standing Committee.
In furtherance of their demands they have been holding peaceful demonstrations at Panchayat levels within the Codava Land area and massive public rallies, peaceful demonstrations and seminars in Codagu and Bangalore.
Their other demand includes ethno-linguistic tribal status for Codavas and extension of reservation facilities in education and employment.
