Take steps to devolve powers: Confederation
Puducherry, Oct 31 (UNI) The Puducherry Municipal Councillors Confederation today urged the administration to take immediate steps to devolve powers to them.
A delegation of councillors led by Confederation President Anibal Nehru called on Local Administration Minister A Namasivayam.
The delegation apprised him that nothing had materialised here, eventhough the elected representatives were fighting for their rights for the last two years, while 19 functions and 20 per cent funds were provided to the councillors in neighbouring Tamil Nadu.
The Panchayati Raj Act was not implemented even after two years of elections, they said and added that the conduct of election itself was a mere formality.
