Mani slams CPI(M) for conducting study class for policemen

Kottayam, Oct 31 (UNI) Kerala Congress (M) leader K M Mani today came down heavily on the CPI(M) for conducting study class for policemen at the CPI(M) district committee office here yesterday.

Talking to newspersons here, he alleged that the CPI (M) action could not be treated as an isolated incident but part of a common programme of the party.

''It will undermine democracy and disturb law and order in the state. In a democracy, civil service, military and paramilitary should always be free from politics. The CPI(M) is trying to politicise the police,'' he charged.

As many as 40 policemen participated in the study class held at the party office, he alleged.

Disciplinary action should be taken against the policemen and they should be suspended from service, he demanded.

Mr Mani appealed to the Chief Minister and all constituents of the LDF to make clear their stance on the issue.

It was not the Home Minister but the District Secretaries of the CPI(M), which were controlling the police in the state, he alleged.

To a question, he asserted that he and his party were against making political groups in the police.
