Manav Rachna International Deemed-to-be-University
New Delhi, Oct 31 (UNI) Faridabad, Haryana-based Manav Rachna International University is a deemed-to-be-university, the Human Resource Development Ministry declared today.
The Ministry said in a statement it acted on the recommendation of the University Grants Commission and its move was subject to compliance with various requirements.
''The Central government... hereby declare that Manav Rachna International University, Faridabad, Haryana, comprising of Career Institute of Technology and Management only, shall be a 'deemed-to-be-university'.
It said the status would be in effect for five years from the date of its disaffiliation from Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak ''subject to annual review by the Review Committee for five years.'' The status ''shall be confirmed after a period of three years on the basis of the aforesaid reviews by an Expert Committee of the UGC and recommendations of the Commission thereof.'' The statement said the status was granted under 'de novo' category-- signifying pursuit of newer areas of study.
At the same time, the University is required to ''ensure that the nomenclatures of the degrees... awarded by it are specified by the UGC under Section 22 of the UGC Act 1956.'' It ''shall not award any degrees.. not specified by the UGC'' but ''take immediate steps to start doctoral programmes and innovative courses'' and strengthen ''its research programmes.'' The institution ''shall start new academic courses only as per the norms prescribed'' by the UGC and other statutory bodies.
