CLP ridicules PRP's promises to weavers

Hyderabad, Oct 31 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Congress Legislature Party (CLP) today ridiculed the promises made by Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) Founder-President Chiranjeevi to handloom weavers in Sircilla yesterday, saying the Congress government had already fulfilled its promises.

Addressing a press conference along with Legislators E Prathapaa Reddy and Janardhana Reddy, State Mines, Geology and Handloom Minister P Sabita Reddy said the government had taken up several welfare measures for the welfare of handloom weavers in the state.

The government had also given ex gratia of Rs 1.5 lakh to families of the weavers, who committed suicides, besides purchasing products from the weavers by paying remunerative prices to them, she said.

Alleging that Chiranjeevi was making promises without having any knowledge about handloom weavers, she said the government had created jobs for 1,000 people by organising a job mela in Sircilla and decided to create jobs for 1,400 people more in the area.
