Assembly poll process set in motion in MP
Bhopal, Oct 31 (UNI) The process of assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh was set in motion today with the issuance of a notification for holding polling in 230 constituencies in a single phase on November 27.
Governor Balram Jakhar issued the relevant notification by which filing of nominations started this morning. It will continue till November 7 except on public holidays and scrutiny will take place next day. November 10 is the last date for withdrawal of nominations, official sources said today.
Initially, the Election Commission had fixed November 25 as the polling day, but later it was postponed to November 27 due to the time taken for mobilisation of security personnel from other states.
Counting of votes is scheduled for December 8.
Though filing of nominations opened today, major political parties, including the Congress, BJP and Bahujan Samaj Party were yet to declare their candidates. The CPI(M) has declared its 12 candidates.
More than three crore voters are scheduled to exercise their franchise through electronic voting machine at 46,812 polling stations spread over 50 districts.
For the first time, separate Returning Officer has been appointed for each assembly constituency. Earlier District Collector and District Returning Officer was designated as RO.
