Kerala: ABS selects IIWT for accreditation

Kochi, Oct 31: Texas-based American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), the international classification agency had selected city-based Institute of Welding Technology (IIWT) as the accredited testing centre to provide welders' certification and training in India.

Speaking to newspersons here last night, Institute Promotor Babu Joseph said the accreditation would provide the students an opportunity to develop skils in welding technology on par a with the global standards. The Institute provides a six-month and one year programme, which would equip the students to learn the nuances of welding technology, he added.

Mr Joseph said an online connectivity was established in the Institute, which would enable various multi-national companies to observe the testing and select candidates on a transparent manner, he added.

The Promotor said there was a demand for welders in various sectors like shipping, oil and other related industries across the globe.
