7600 couples to the knot on Nov 2
Tirupati, Oct 31 (UNI) About 7600 applications have been received from the 23 districts in Andhra Pradesh for the fourth phase of "Kalyanamasthu" (mass marriages) to be held on November 2 against 6,369 in the third phase, TTD Executive officer K V Ramanachary said here today.
He said the Devasthanams had successfully conducted the mass marriages throughout Andhra Pradesh and over 20,000 couples had entered into wedlock in a span of two years in three phases.
In the fourth phase, thousands of brides and grooms will be united at the auspicious time between 10.55 am and 11.10 am on November 2, he said.
The Devasthanams has been conducting 'Kalyanamastu the mass marriages programme to spread the Hindu way of marriages and help poor parents, who were unable to marry off their children due to extreme poverty, the TTD said in a release.
