Govt subsidy for post-harvest infrastructure in horticulture

Hyderabad, Oct 30 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Principal Secretary to Agriculture Technology Mission S Chellappa today said the government was providing subsidies for creation of post-harvest infrastructure facilities with an intention to reduce post-harvest losses in horticulure sector.

Inaugurating the one-day workshop on 'Post-Harvest Infrastructure in Horticulture incentives and investment opportunities' organised by the Horticulture Deparment in association with the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry(FAPCCI) here, he said Andhra Pradesh was one of the major Horticulture crop growing states in the country, having an area of more than 18 lakh hectares under various horticulture crops.

He called upon the stakeholders to take up programmes under post-harvest management and avail the eligible assitances from the state Horticulture Mission.

FAPCCI President Suraj Prasad Agarwal said the main objective of the workshop was to enable the stakeholders to familiarise with the latest techniques in processing horticulture produce with a view to reducing the post-harvest losses, thereby enabling the growers to earn additional income.

Andhra Pradesh Commissioner of Horticulture K Madhusudana Rao said the state Horticulture Misison had assisted many unemployed youth for starating the new units related to post-harvest technololgy.
