Floral tributes paid to late veteran freedom fighter

Ramanathapuram, Oct 30 (UNI) Floral tributes were paid to veteran freedom fighter and late leader of All India Forward Bloc Muthuramalinga Thevar on his birth anniversary, here today.

Prominent political leaders, including Tamil Nadu Local Administration Minister M K Stalin, former Chief Minister and AIADMK General Secretary Ms J Jayalalithaa, TNCC (I) President K V Thangabaalu, BJP State President L Ganesan, PMK President G K Mani, Moovendar Munnetra Kazhagam (MMK) founder G M Sridhar Vandaiyar, Moovendar Munnani Kazhagham President Dr N Sethuraman and other state ministers, paid thier rich homage at the memorial.

Thousands of people, mostly from Thevar community, thronged the memorial from various parts of the state to pay their homage to Thevar.

A large number of Thevar community people also tonsured their heads, while women cooked sweet pongal to mark Thevar Jayanthi celebrations.

During the celebration, Ms Jayalalithaa inaugurated a mass feeding programme, organised by the MMK party.

Tight security arrangements were also made around the memorial.
