Chennai CM dedicates upgraded Rajiv Gandhi Salai

Chennai, Oct 30: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government has always honoured those who sacrificed their lives for the cause of the nation"s welfare, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said on Wednesday, Oct 29 inaugurating the Oragadam Industrial Park road development works at a function at Sholinganallur.

Karunanidhi, who dedicated the upgraded 20-km-long Rajiv Gandhi Salai (the IT corridor from Madhya Kailash temple in Taramani to Siruseri) recalled his government"s decision to enact a law to commemorate birth anniversary of former Chief Minister K Kamaraj in recognition of the leader"s contributions to the spread of education in the State.

The Chief Minister also referred to the move of his government [during the previous tenure] to name the Government Estate in the city after another former Chief Minister Omandur P Ramasamy Reddi.

It was in this backdrop that the Old Mamallapuram Road was renamed as Rajiv Gandhi Salai, he added.
