2 held for smuggling kerosene, van impounded

Kancheepuram, Oct 30 (UNI) Two persons were arrested in connection with smuggling kerosene meant for public distribution system (PDS), here today.

Police said following a tip off about kerosene being smuggled in a van on the Chennai-Bangalore National Highway, a vehicle check was conducted.

Suddenly, they saw a van speeding towards Vellore. The police signalled the driver to stop.

An examination of the vehicle revealed 200 litre of kerosene stored in ten barrels.

The kerosene was being smuggled from a PDS shop at Chengalpet.Van driver Ramesh (28) and the person responsible for smuggling the fuel, Sethuraman (28) were arrested. The van was impounded, police added.
