Workshop on disaster reduction to begin today

New Delhi, Oct 29 : The first partnership development workshop under the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) South-South Cooperation Programme will be held here today.

The workshop will be hosted by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the World Bank.

GFDRR South-South Cooperation Programme is a major initiative to facilitate collaboration among low and middle-income countries to mainstream disaster risk reduction and recovery into the development planning and programming.

The workshop aims at sharing of experience and knowledge, and establishing collaboration among governments, institutions, networks and communities.

The workshop will be attended by participants from around 24 countries across the world. Over 50 disaster risk reduction experts and practitioners will be participating in the workshop.

Senior officials of the Home Ministry including Secretary (Border Management) Jarnail Singh will attend the workshop. In addition, representatives from the World Bank, the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will also be participating in and facilitating the various sessions of the workshop.

This workshop will help better understand the scope of GFDRR South-South Cooperation Programme and its expected outputs and outcomes and identify the areas of cooperation and modalities of partnership.
