TN CM's threat of MPs resignation hollow, alleges Swamy
Coimbatore, Oct 29 (UNI) Janata Party President Dr Subramanian Swamy today alleged that DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has been exposed in his hollow announcement that all Tamil Nadu MPs would resign if the Centre does not force the Sri Lankan government to halt the alleged ''genocide'' of Tamils there.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the Chief Minister wanted a ceasefire to be effected at Sri Lanka. However, the Centre had ignored his demand and declared that a ceasefire declaration was an internal matter of that government.
Despite being rebuffed by the Centre on this fundamental issue, Mr Karunanidhi was clutching at the fig leaf to hide his humiliation and meekly withdrew his threat, he said.
He also alleged that Mr Karunanidhi's threat was not for suffering Sri Lankan Tamils, it was only to help LTTE.
Stating that the present DMK government should be dismissed by the Centre, Dr Swamy alleged the situation vis-a-vis the DMK was similar to that in 1991 when the then DMK government was dismissed.
Mr Swamy alleged at that time Mr Karunanidhi was charged with passing on national security secrets made available to him by the Centre to the LTTE.
To a question, he claimed that as per information he possessed, Ms Jayalalithaa's charge that the Chief Minister had directed the police to arrest her on any cognizable offence in the IPC was correct.
The JP President caimed that the Centre also received a report from Intelligence Bureau corroborating Ms Jayalalithaa's charge.
