Fire breaks out in footwear factory in Kolkata

Kolkata, Oct 28: A fire broke out in a footwear factory at Picnic Garden in South Kolkata tonight.

Fire department sources said 29 fire engines were pressed into service to douse the flames which erupted after 2100 hrs.

The Fire Brigade personnel were taking all required measures to prevent the fire from spreading further, they said.

The cause of the fire and the loss of property were yet to be ascertained. However, it was suspected that the fire was caused by some crackers.

This was the third incident of fire in the city since Friday last.

A tannery and a shoe factory were destroyed by fire on October 24 and 26 respectively.
