EC warns politicians against inflammatory speeches
Bhopal, Oct 28 (UNI) Adopting a tough stance on observance of the Model Code of Conduct in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, the Election Commission has issued instructions to politicians not to deliver speeches that may create tension among members of various religions and castes or spread hatred.
Luring or bribing the electorate has been included in corrupt practices that would be tantamount to crime. The Chief Election Commissioner issued directives in this respect, an official release said here yesterday.
Political parties and candidates have been told not to indulge in any act that might lead to increase in differences among various communities. Criticism of rival parties must be confined to policies, programmes and style of work only. There will be no comments on personal lives of rival candidates. No baseless allegations will be levelled. No mention of caste or social affiliation will be made to garner votes.
Similarly, temples, mosques, churches and other places of worship cannot be used for electioneering.
The parties and nominees have been advised to avoid campaigning in a 100-metre radius around any polling booth on the voting day, holding public meetings in the period of 48 hours preceding polling and ferrying voters to and from polling stations.
It has also been made clear that political parties and candidates will respect the right of everyone to lead peaceful and uninterrupted lives even if they may oppose their views and deeds.
No agitation can be staged in front of anyone's house. Nobody's land, wall, premises and houses can be used for hoisting flags, fastening banners or writing graffiti sans consent.
Political parties have also been told not to interfere in one another's public meetings or rallies. They must also not take their rally through an area where a public meeting of another party is in progress, the relase added.
