Curfew in Bhainsa partially lifted, people celebrate Diwali

Adilabad, Oct 28: People in sensitive Bhainsa town were celebrating Diwali with joy as the curfew clamped at the town in this district, following communal clashes during an immersion procession on October 10, was partially lifted on Tuesday, Oct 28.

According to police, the curfew was lifted from 6 am to 10 pm as the situation was under control with no fresh violence reporting from anywhere during the relaxation period.

The authorities would lift the curfew totally in a few days, depending on the situation.

Units of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and local police continued to be deployed in strength in the narrow lanes and bylanes to maintain peace in the riot-torn town, police said.

Police remanded all the nine accused in the Vottoli incident, in which six members of a family, belonging to a minority community, were burnt alive on October 12.

Nearly 30 cases were booked under various sections of the law. As many as 249 people, identified as accused, were taken into custody so far in connection with the communal violence in the town.

Three people were killed and 15 injured when violence broke out in the town during the immersion ceremony.
