Units in Punjab celebrate the Infantry Day

Jalandhar, Oct 27 (UNI) Various infantry units in Punjab today celebrated the Infantry Day to commemorate the great saga of sacrifices and valour towards the call of duty.

On this in 1947, the first Indian Infantry Battalion had landed at Srinagar Air Field for the defence of Jammu and Kashmir against Pakistani aggression.

Celebrations, including 'Barakhana' and other programmes were organised for all ranks at their respective unit locations in the state.

At Jalandhar, the day commenced with the wreath laying ceremny at Vajra Corps War Memorial by Lft Gen V S Tonk, GOC, followed by Sainik Sammelan at Kalwant Hall and feasting and culminated with Infantry day celebrations at Vajra Officers Institute.

In Amritsar, Maj Gen P S Paul, GOC Panthers' Division led the wreath laying ceremony at the Dograi memorial, followed by cutural events and feasting.
