Police have done right job: R R Patil

Nagpur, Oct 27: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil justified the shooting down of a gunman from Bihar in an exchange of fire with the police in Mumbai earlier in the day.

Speaking to mediapersons here, Mr Patil, who also holds the Home portfolio, said the police had done the right thing and had acted in the manner the situation demanded.

''We will not allow mad men with guns in hand to have a free run.

We will take stern and quick action against them,'' he said.

The incident was not a reflection on the law and order situation in the state as it was a one-off thing, Mr Patil added.

Asked if the government had any strategy to tackle such situations, the Home Minister shot back: ''Do you have one? If you have any suggestions, please pass it on to the government.'' Earlier, Mr Patil visited Gadchiroli in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, where four policemen, including a sub-inspector, were gunned down in an exchange of fire with suspected naxalites.
