Paddy procurement picks up; nears 11 MT Mark
New Delhi, Oct 27 (UNI) Paddy procurement in the current marketing season has picked up after a slow start.
So far, about 10.67 million tonne (MT) paddy has been procured by government agencies, compared to 9.89 MT during the same time last season.
In terms of rice, the procurement comes to 7.17 MT as against last year's 6.67 MT, according to data compiled in the Department of Food and Public Distribution.
Leading states contributing to rice procurement include Punjab with 8.86 MT, Haryana with 1.57 MT, Tamil Nadu with 154 thousand tonne, Kerala at 36.5 thousand tonne, Uttar Pradesh 27.7 thousand tonne and Chhattisgarh 14.8 thousand tonne.
