NALCO commissions Boiler of 120 MW power project
Bhubaneswar, Oct 27 (UNI) The Public Sector National Aluminium Company Ltd (NALCO), Navaratna, achieved a major milestone by lighting up the Boiler of the 120 MW unit of its Captive Power Plant (CPP) at Angul yesterday.
With this, the commissioning activities of new units of CPP had begun as per the schedule and would be completed by December 2008.
The company's captive Power plant expansion was part of its ongoing Rs 5000 crore second phase expansion projects.
NALCO had already installed 960 MW captive power plant and with the commissioning of two more units; the capacity would increase to 1,200 MW.
Company Chairman-cum-Managing Director C R Pradhan, Director Production P K Routray and other senior officials were present on the occasion.
The boiler lighting-up is considered as a significant milestone towards the commissioning of second phase expansion project, NALCO sourses said, adding that commissioning activities at other units like Bauxite Mines, Alumina Refinery and Smelter plant were also going on simultaneously.
The company had already planned to go for third phase expansion at an estimated cost of Rs 6,000 crore. Under this expansion, the company's aluminium capacity would further go up to 5.80 lakh tonnes and power generation to 1400 MW per annum.
