Jaya claim about arrest is only her imagination, says TN DGP
Chennai, Oct 27 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) today said there was no move to arrest AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa as alleged by her.
DGP K P Jain dismissed as ''false and a figment of imagination'', the AIADMK leader's claim that the state government had issued orders to arrest her after a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.
In a statement here last evening, Ms Jayalalithaa had alleged that the DMK government was planning to arrest her for her demand that the Centre arrest Mr Karunanidhi and other pro-LTTE leaders under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Ms Jayalalithaa had alleged that the Chief Minister, after convening a meeting of police officials, ordered her arrest. When the police officials said there was no prima facie case to arrest her, the Chief Minister insisted she had to be arrested and put behind the bars, she had alleged.
''The Tamil Nadu government has not ordered the arrest of AIADMK leader Ms Jayalalithaa as reported in a section of the media'', the DGP said, reacting to media reports.
The DGP also clarified that no high-level meeting was convened for this purpose as alleged by Ms Jayalalithaa. ''Ms Jayalalithaa has deliberately made the false statement with a view to create confusion and sensation. There is no truth in her statement'', the DGP clarified.
