Former Madras Mayor passes away
Chennai, Oct 27 (UNI) Former Mayor of Madras Municipal Corporation Era Sambantham died here late last night, following old age, according to his family sources.
He was 81. He is survived by his wife, three sons, three daughters and grand children.
A senior DMK partyman, Mr Sambantham was the Mayor of this Metropolis during the period when late C N Annadurai was the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. A keen sports enthusiast, he was also an accomplished hockey player. He represented the Tamil Nadu state team in hockey.
He was also a member of the selection committee of India's junior hockey team.
He was also the manager of Indian contingent that participated in the Munich Olympics in Germany. He had also participated in Olympic Games for veterans. He had also served as President of many state sports Associations.
